I was in a discussion the other day with someone on the issue of whether or not they should offer a number of one click Icons like the ones that NewsGator, BlogLines, and other feed readers offer. At the end of the day - we somehow need to make it easier to do one-click RSS subscription. I'm bummed that I have to perform a multi click, pain in the ass process to get feeds into NewsGator. Granted, it's not complicated, but it's certainly at least a small barrier to adoption.
Since the feed URI scheme is just a pre-draft, for now a simple solution would be to use quickSub.
I found this info on Carmen Holotescu's blog (in Romanian).
Dana,
Not sure how far this has come but there is some growing support for something called a Universal Subscription Mechanism. It's still pretty technical stuff but if you want to hurt your head you can start reading about it here. http://www.kbcafe.com/rss/usm.html
My guess is that Firefox will figure this out and then MS will come along.
Hope all is well with you
Hi Dana,
I like what some have done like Stephan Spencer's Scatterings, http://www.stephanspencer.com, which make the RSS subscription page readable with an XSLT style sheet. It seems like a good approach not to scare the newbies away with the cryptic-looking XML code.
It's definitely more work for the blogger, but friendlier for those new to RSS.
