Blogging with a call to action
Bob Bly gets it. If we're in a conversation with someone, and we care what they think (let's pretend that we do, even if we don't), what's the natural thing for us to do after we tell them what we think? Well, typically, we ask them what they think. Take a look at your blog posts. How many overtly ask for 'what people think' as a call to action. I looked at most of mine. No call to action. So, how would you all handle this? What are some potential 'calls to action' for your blog posts? Is commenting enough, or should there be more? I am in favour of this notion of a call to action. It seems to me that many blogs are getting very few comments. Hey, even your award winning blog hasn't been getting many lately. Sometimes I make comments on blogs I read, then I wonder whether the author of the blog really wanted to enter into a discussion. Few ever seem to comment on my comments, so I guess they aren't looking for a conversation. There seems to be some evidence to suggest that blog readers write emails to blog authors, in preference to commenting on the actual blog. Perhaps this is where the conversation takes place. On a back channel. Post a comment
