The US is WAY, WAY BEHIND Japan in mobile web usage

The NPD Group found that just 12% of US mobile phone users go online through their phones, significantly less than the 76% of users in Japan who are surfing the Web through their wireless handset.

From what I have seen, most of these Japanese users are browsing on the train ride to/from work. I don't think the average American needs another distraction from driving during their commute... In fact, the 12% vs. 76% probably matches up well with the percentage of commuters using means of public transport in Japan and the U.S.
